The wait is over… this week @torncontemporary launched. Many thanks to the brave and patient founder @katherinesheers for persevering with all things CV-19, and continuing to look out for all of us involved artists .

TORN Contemporary specialising in works of art on paper – OPEN!

”Happy Friday! And another ten trees going in the ground thanks to this SOLD artwork 'Discarded Landscape II' by TORN artist @alexroberts975.

Using economical marks to create a tangible sense of identity, I love the way Alex has allowed the crumpled nature of the recycled packaging it's painted on, to disrupt the subject matter.

But shhhh...this piece is destined to be a surprise gift. If you'd like to purchase artwork from TORN as a present, just let us know and the artist will happily include a personal note to the lucky recipient”.

🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳10 MORE TREES PLANTED!🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳

Bauhaus 2021 change of plans

With the constant, ever-changing situation with the pandemic, the Free Your Painting course along with many other Bauhaus Summer School courses is sadly being postponed this August. Please see the information shared and links from BSS, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (below) for more information.

Alex and the BSS courses hope to return and welcome you to Weimar in the forthcoming future when the world is settled, healthier. Please stay safe!

“CHANGE OF PLANS

With regard to the ongoing and constantly changing pandemic situation we have to make some changes in our summer programme – several of our amazing and insightful courses need to be cancelled. It was with an immense heavy heart that this decision has been made, but we want to do our part to help contain the pandemic.

That’s the moment for a big shout-out to all of our great lecturers who have already invested a lot of time and sweat – we hope that someday we’ll eventually organise a wonderful summer together!

We are all the more grateful to announce the following silver lining: the courses Cultural LandscapesForecast Engineering, and Design Thinking will be able to take place – on- or off-line.

For all of you who had already their eye on a course that got cancelled now: we very much hope to welcome you in Weimar when times are a bit more calm again.

We can't say it often enough: Thank you all a lot for your support and understanding - you are an amazing crowd! Always feel welcome to contact us via email or message in case you have questions or issues on this topic”.

Like all good things, sometimes a simple (and much needed) pause accompanies a valued, ‘worth the wait’.

@torncontemporary was due to launch in early Nov but the brave founder of this new gallery has been nursing herself back to good health having been ill with Covid, thankfully with recovering results.

artist support pledge

IMG_2218.JPG

Although I cannot access my studio at present (DE's sensible guidelines) I hope to create some sketches, doodles, works on paper at home & add to the support of this brilliant idea over the coming weeks. Thank you @matthewburrowsstudio for your collective insight & generous spirit.

#Repost @matthewburrowsstudio
Yesterday I instigated the #artistsupportpledge
Within hours I had multiple pledges and hope to be able to report the first completion today. It's a simple concept, you post images of your work you are willing to sell for no more than £200/ €200 each (not including shipping). Every time you reach £1000/ €1000 of sales you pledge to buy another artist's work for £200/ €200.

This creates a small but dynamic market where all can contribute whatever their level of success. This is a culture dependent on the honesty and generosity of our artistic communities at every level. So, make a pledge, post your work with the #artistsupportpledge Please repost this and make a pledge. I look forward to seeing your work.

HAPPY HOUR brings together eight artists to exhibit at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery's London Bridge project space.

The Melior Place project space is housed within the building's glasshouse architecture and reverberates with the city's unique histories and energy. Sculpture, painting and video work are installed throughout the building to activate a dialogue between the artworks and the architectural space.

HAPPY HOUR allows us to glimpse a space of possibility between work, leisure and the domestic, an example of how this performative cross-boundary 'being-together' can come about through the communal or collective.

From origins dating back to the USS Arkansas American Navy in 1913, the term 'happy hour' derived from The Happy Hour Social, a place for those on board to drink, box and dance. The club addressed the very real need for conviviality, escapism and release from workaday realities.

By the same token, HAPPY HOUR offers a similar invitation to let loose and unwind, and to explore what connects the worlds of politics, work and pleasure.
